Selat Kerkyra adalah perairan sempit di sepanjang pesisir Albania dan Yunani timur yang memisahkan kedua negara ini dari pulau Kerkyra di barat. Selat ini merupakan bagian dari Laut Adriatik dan Laut Ionia[1] yang digunakan sebagai jalur lokal pelabuhan Sarandë, Albania, dan Igoumenitsa, Yunani, dan sebagai lalu lintas turis di Albania dan dari daratan Yunani ke pulau Kerkyra, serta beberapa lalu lintas internasional dari Laut Adriatik.[2]

Insiden Selat Kerkyra mengacu pada tiga insiden terpisah yang melibatkan kapal Angkatan Laut Britania Raya di Selat Kerkyra yang terjadi pada tahun 1946, dan dianggap sebagai episode awal Perang Dingin.[3][4][5] Selama insiden pertama, kapal Angkatan Laut Britania Raya diserang dari benteng Albania.[4] Insiden kedua melibatkan kapal Angkatan Laut Britania Raya yang menabrak ranjau laut dan insiden ketiga terjadi ketika Angkatan Laut Britania Raya melakukan operasi pembersihan ranjau di Selat Kerkyra, tetapi di wilayah perairan Albania,[3] dan Albania mengeluh tentang hal itu kepada Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa.[4] Serangkaian insiden ini menyebabkan Kasus Selat Kerkyra, yang membuat Britania Raya membawa kasus itu melawan Republik Rakyat Sosialis Albania ke Mahkamah Internasional.[6] Karena insiden tersebut, Britania Raya pada tahun 1946 berencana melakukan diskusi terhadap pihak Albania yang bertujuan untuk menjalin hubungan diplomatik antara kedua negara. Namun, hubungan diplomatik baru terbentuk pada tahun 1991.[7]
