Park Chan-wook (Hangul: 박찬욱 Pengucapan Korea: [pak̚t͡ɕʰanuk̚ ]; lahir 23 Agustus 1963) merupakan seorang sutradara, produser dan penulis naskah Korea Selatan. Ia dikenal sebagai sutradara film Joint Security Area (2000), Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002), Oldboy (2003), Lady Vengeance (2005), Thirst (2009) dan The Handmaiden (2016).

Latar belakang

Park Chan-wook lahir dan besar di Seoul,[1] lalu ia menempuh pendidikan filsafat di Universitas Sogang. Ketika ia kuliah dan kecewa dengan orientasi analitik jurusan dan sedikit estetika, ia memulai klub sinema, "Komunitas Film Sogang", dan menerbitkan sejumlah artikel di bioskop kontemporer. Awalnya, ia berniat menjadi kritikus seni, lalu setelah melihat film Vertigo tahun 1958, ia memutuskan untuk menjadi pembuat film.[2] Setelah lulus, ia menulis artikel tentang film untuk jurnal dan segera menjadi asisten sutradara film Kkamdong, yang disutradarai oleh Yu Yeong-jin, dan Watercolor painting in a Rainy Day, yang disutradarai oleh Kwak Jae-yong (My Sassy Girl).[3]
