Pancawara

Pancawara adalah nama dari sebuah pekan atau minggu yang terdiri dari 5 hari, dalam budaya Jawa dan Bali. Pancawara juga disebut sebagai hari pasaran dalam bahasa Jawa karena beberapa pasar tradisional pada zaman dahulu hanya buka pada hari tertentu saja, misalkan Pasar Legi dan Pasar Pon di Solo hanya buka pada hari Legi dan Pon saja dalam satu minggu kalender Jawa (siklus 5 hari). Dalam sistem penanggalan Jawa dan Bali, terdapat 2 macam siklus waktu: siklus mingguan dan siklus pasaran. Dalam siklus mingguan, satu minggu dibagi menjadi 7 hari, seperti yang kita kenal sekarang (Senin, Selasa, Rabu, Kamis, Jumat, Sabtu, dan Minggu). Dalam siklus pasaran, satu pekan terdiri dari 5 hari pasaran. Nama-nama hari dalam sistem pancawara (pasaran) ini adalah: paing–pon–wage–kliwon–legi1/umanis2.

Menurut kalender Jawa, tiap hari dan tanggal dalam sistem kalender Masehi selalu mempunyai dua macam nama hari. Misalnya 1 Januari 2001 adalah hari Senin - Paing, berikutnya tanggal 2 Januari 2001 adalah hari Selasa - Pon, kemudian diikuti hari Rabu - Wage, disusul hari Kamis - Kliwon, Jumat - Legi, Sabtu - Paing, Minggu - Pon, Senin - Wage, Selasa - Kliwon, dan seterusnya. Kombinasi dua macam hari ini sampai sekarang masih dipakai dalam penerbitan surat kabar berbahasa Jawa, seperti harian Kedaulatan Rakyat yang terbit di kota Yogyakarta, misalnya.

Hari Nepton/Neptu

Tiap hari pasaran menurut penanggalan Jawa mempunyai bobot angka yang disebut neptu, misalnya:

  • Paing mempunyai bobot/neptu angka 9
  • Pon mempunyai bobot/neptu angka 7
  • Wage mempunyai bobot/neptu angka 4
  • Kliwon mempunyai bobot/neptu angka 8, dan
  • Legi mempunyai bobot/neptu angka 5.

Sementara hari mingguan akan mengikuti bobot angka sbb:

  • Senin mempunyai bobot/neptu angka 4
  • Selasa mempunyai bobot/neptu angka 3
  • Rabu mempunyai bobot/neptu angka 7
  • Kamis mempunyai bobot/neptu angka 8
  • Jumat mempunyai bobot/neptu angka 6
  • Sabtu mempunyai bobot/neptu angka 9, dan
  • Ahad/Minggu mempunyai bobot/neptu angka 5.

Seperti disebutkan di atas, tanggal 1 Januari 2001 (awal abad ke-21 dan awal alaf ke-3) adalah hari Senin-Paing, dan mempunyai bobot/neptu angka 13, karena Senin = 4 + Paing = 9. Angka semacam ini biasanya dipakai untuk menentukan hari baik dalam melakukan aktivitas sehari-hari, termasuk untuk memilih hari perkawinan menurut adat kepercayaan Jawa.
