Tragedi Othello, Moor dari Venice adalah sandiwara tragedi karya William Shakespeare yang ditulis sekitar tahun 1603. Karena temanya yang bermacam-macam ─ rasisme, cinta, iri, pengkhianatan - sandiwara ini tetap populer hingga masa kini. Terjemahan ke dalam bahasa Indonesianya berjudul Othelo dan dilakukan oleh Trisno Sumardjo.[1]

Sandiwara ini menceritakan tentang monster yang bernama iri hati. Othello, seorang jenderal yang tidak takut apapun juga di medan perang, takut terhadap pengkhianatan di kamar tidurnya oleh istrinya yang cantik dan pemberani, Desdemona. Letnan muda Othello, Iago, iri hati terhadap Cassio, letnan yang baru dilantik yang menggungguli dia. Roderigo yang bodoh mengirikan hal yang tidak dapat ia miliki: Desdemonoa. Di balik semua penipuan, pengkhianatan, dan pembunuhan adalah orang yang paling dipercayai oleh Othello, Iago. "Wajah seorang jahanam tidak pernah tampak jelas, sampai ketika digunakan." Sinopsis
