Nikos Salingaros

Nikos Angelos Salingaros (bahasa Yunani: Νίκος Άγγελος Σαλίγκαρος; lahir 1952 di Perth, Australia) adalah seorang ahli matematika dan polymath yang dikenal karena karyanya tentang teori urban, teori arsitektur, teori kompleksitas, dan filosofi desain. Dia kolaborasi dengan arsitek Christopher Alexander, mereka berbagi analisis kritis yang keras terhadap arsitektur modern konvensional. Seperti Alexander, Salingaros juga mengusulkan pendekatan teoretis alternatif untuk arsitektur dan urbanisme yang lebih adaptif terhadap kebutuhan dan aspirasi manusia, serta menggabungkan analisis ilmiah yang ketat dengan pengalaman intuitif yang mendalam.

Salingaros telah menerbitkan penelitian substantif tentang Aljabar, Fisika Matematika, Bidang Elektromagnetik, dan Thermonuclear Fusion sebelum mengalihkan perhatiannya ke Arsitektur dan Urbanisme. Salingaros masih mengajar matematika dan merupakan Profesor Matematika di Universitas Texas, San Antonio. Dia juga mengajar di fakultas Arsitektur universitas di Italia, Meksiko, dan Belanda.

Pribadi

Terlahir dari orang tua Yunani, Salingaros adalah anak tunggal dari komposer populer Stelios Salingaros; ia juga keponakan dari penyanyi bariton opera Spyros Sali(n)garos.^[1] (bahasa Yunani: Σπύρος Σαλίγκαρος).

Pendidikan

Salingaros mulai bekerja di bidang seni sebagai pelukis, tetapi segera beralih ke ilmu pengetahuan. Ia memperoleh gelar sarjana Fisika dari University Miami, Florida. Dia mendapat gelar Masternya pada 1974 dan Doktor pada 1978 di Universitas Negeri New York di Stony Brook. Pada tahun 1982, ia memulai kolaborasi jangka panjang dengan Christopher Alexander, menjadi salah satu editor The Nature of Order, buku empat-volume tentang estetika dan proses geometri alam karya Alexander.
