Monotremata[1] (monos, tunggal + trema, lubang; merujuk pada kloaka) adalah mamalia yang bertelur, alih-alih beranak seperti marsupialia (Metatheria) dan mamalia berplasenta (Eutheria).

Seperti mamalia lainnya, monotremata berdarah panas dengan kadar metabolik yang tinggi (walaupun tidak setinggi mamalia lainnya); tubuhnya berambut, memproduksi susu untuk menyusui anak mereka, memiliki tulang tunggal pada rahang bawahnya; dan memiliki tiga tulang telinga tengah.
