Makanan anjing

Makanan anjing adalah makanan yang diformulasikan secara khusus untuk dikonsumsi oleh anjing dan genus canis lainnya. Anjing dianggap hewan omnivora dengan bias karnivora. Mereka memiliki gigi tajam, runcing dan saluran pencernaan karnivora yang lebih pendek dan lebih cocok untuk mengonsumsi daging daripada bahan nabati, namun juga memiliki 10 gen yang bertanggung jawab untuk pencernaan pati dan glukosa,[1] serta kemampuan untuk menghasilkan amilase, enzim yang berfungsi untuk memecah karbohidrat menjadi gula sederhana - sesuatu yang tidak dimiliki oleh banyak karnivora.[2]

Anjing telah berhasil beradaptasi lebih dari ribuan tahun untuk bertahan hidup dengan memakan sisa daging dan non-daging serta berbagai makanan lainnya, studi menunjukkan kemampuan anjing untuk mencerna karbohidrat dengan mudah dapat menjadi perbedaan utama antara anjing dengan serigala.[2]

Untuk di Amerika Serikat saja, pasar makanan anjing diperkirakan akan mencapai $ 23,3 miliar pada tahun 2022.[3]
