Pada 17 September 2024, sekitar pukul 15:30 EEST, ribuan penyeranta genggam yang digunakan oleh para anggota Hizbullah, suatu partai politik dan milisi Lebanon, meledak secara bersamaan di Lebanon dan Suriah.[8][9][10][11] Badan intelijen Israel telah mencegat pengiriman penyeranta dan memasang bahan peledak di dalamnya, menurut sumber New York Times yang tidak disebutkan namanya.[12] Setidaknya 12 orang tewas dan lebih dari 2.750 orang terluka,[6][13][7] termasuk anggota Hizbullah dan warga sipil.[11][14][15] Seorang anggota Hizbullah mengatakan kepada National News Agency bahwa peristiwa ini adalah "pelanggaran keamanan terbesar organisasi".[16]

Pada bulan Februari 2024, sekretaris jenderal Hizbullah, Hassan Nasrallah, memerintahkan anggota kelompoknya untuk menggunakan penyeranta alih-alih telepon seluler, dengan alasan bahwa Israel telah menyusup ke jaringan telepon seluler mereka.[25][26] Hizbullah kemudian membeli merek penyeranta baru, model Gold Apollo AR924, yang baru-baru ini diimpor ke Lebanon dari perusahaan Taiwan Gold Apollo.[14][27][28]

Gelombang ledakan kedua terjadi di Lebanon pada tanggal 18 September. Ledakan tersebut menargetkan protofon dan menewaskan sedikitnya sembilan orang dan melukai 300 orang.[29] Peralatan elektronik lainnya seperti panel surya juga dilaporkan meledak.[30][31] Sumber Reuters mengatakan bahwa radio genggam dibeli oleh Hizbullah lima bulan lalu, kira-kira pada waktu yang sama dengan pembelian penyeranta.[32]
