Know Your Meme (KYM) adalah situs web dan seri video yang menggunakan perangkat lunak wiki untuk mendokumentasikan berbagai meme Internet dan fenomena daring lainnya, seperti video viral, makro gambar, slogan, selebriti internet, dan lain-lain. Mereka juga menyelidiki meme yang baru dan berubah melalui penelitian, sebagaimana dikomersilkan pada budaya. Awalnya diproduksi oleh Rocketboom, situs ini diakuisisi pada bulan Maret 2011 oleh Cheezburger Network. Know Your Meme mencakup bagian untuk meme yang dikonfirmasi, diajukan, di-deadpool (ditolak atau tidak lengkap didokumentasikan), diteliti, dan meme populer.

Situs web

Proyek Know Your Meme dimulai pada bulan September 2007, sebagai segmen berulang di dalam seri video Rocketboom dan sebagai situs tujuan wiki untuk mendukung dokumentasi meme Internet. Dibuat oleh Kenyatta Cheese and Andrew Baron, "pakar meme" dalam jaket laboratorium putih menggunakan metafora laboratorium ilmiah untuk menganalisis dan mendekonstruksi meme teratas pada hari itu; siapa pun yang memiliki akun dapat menggunakan situs web tersebut untuk mengeksplorasi dan berkontribusi dalam penelitian meme. Pada akhir tahun 2008, setelah lebih dari satu tahun pertumbuhan, Rocketboom merilis basis data yang diperluas dengan Jamie Wilkinson sebagai pengembang utamanya.[2] Pada Januari 2017, basis data tersebutberisi lebih dari 2.700 entri meme yang "dikonfirmasi".[3]

Pengurus memiliki suara tentang entri apa yang dikonfirmasi dan apa yang "di-deadpool" atau ditolak.[4] Beberapa entri meme bersifat grafis dan Not Safe For Work (NSFW).[5] Entri NSFW memiliki peringatan yang ditempatkan di sepanjang bagian atas entri dan iklan biasanya dinonaktifkan. Peringatan ini mungkin berbeda dari konsekuensi, seperti larangan. Know Your Meme juga memiliki bagian forum, blog, dan too. Dr. Sean Rintel, yang menulis blog The Automated Identity, menggambarkan Know Your Meme sebagai "penelitian menguntungkan dan mandiri yang menyatukan hal-hal yang lucu dan yang serius."[6] Pada Juli 2016, situs ini dikelola oleh lima anggota staf redaksi (Brad Kim, Don Caldwell, Adam Downer, Matt Schimkowitz and Briana Milman) dan satu pengembang (James Wu) yang berhubungan dengan sekelompok moderator yang berdedikasi. Mantan staf peneliti termasuk Chris Menning, Amanda Brennan, Molly Horan dan Ari Spool.[7]

Situs dan seri video web Know Your Meme diakuisisi pada bulan March 2011 oleh Cheezburger Network dengan jumlah tujuh digit yang tidak diungkapkan.[8]
