Kepulauan Selatan adalah sebuah kawasan perencanaan yang terdiri dari kumpulan pulau-pulau kecil yang terletak di Region Sentral Singapura. Pulau-pulau ini pernah menjadi rumah bagi orang asli dan pegembara laut pulau-pulau Melayu ebelum mereka dipindahkan ke pulau utama (Singapura). Pulau-pulau yang membentuk area perencanaan adalah Pulau Kusu, Pulau Lazarus, Pulau Seringat, Pulau Tekukor, Pulau Saint John, Sentosa, dan dua Kepulauan Saudara . Jumlah luas daratan di pulau-pulau tersebut berkisar sekitar 558 kilometer persegi (215 sq mi). Sentosa Development Corporation mengawasi pengembangan dan pemeliharaan pulau-pulau lepas pantai ini di selatan Singapura dari tahun 1976 hingga Maret 2017, ketika diserahkan kembali ke Otoritas Pertanahan Singapura.

Kawasan perencanaan Kepulauan Selatan terletak di Selat Singapura, di sebelah selatan kawasan perencanaan daratan Bukit Merah. Kawasan ini juga berbagi batas maritim dengan kawasan perencanaan Kepulauan Barat.

Pengembangan

Pada tahun 2000, sebagai bagian dari rencana Singapore Tourism Board (STB) untuk mengembangkan Kepulauan Selatan lainnya setelah Sentosa, reklamasi tanah dimulai untuk menghubungkan Pulau Seringat dan Pulau Lazarus. Reklamasi tersebut menciptakan gosong pasir di antara kedua pulau, membentuk sebuah laguna yang memiliki pemandangan laut yang tidak terhalang.

Pulau Seringat, yang sekarang menjadi bagian dari Pulau Lazarus yang diperluas, memiliki pantai yang berbentang sepanjang 800 meter. Ribuan meter kubik pasir diimpor dari Indonesia untuk membuat pantai. Sekitar 1.000 pohon kelapa dewasa juga ditanam untuk menambah nuansa pulau.

Jalan lintas yang menghubungkan Pulau Lazarus dan Pulau Saint John juga dibangun.

Pulau Kias dahulu merupakan sebuah gosong pasir yang nyaris tak terlihat saat air pasang. Pulau ini sekarang menampung generator listrik dengan kapasitas yang cukup untuk mendukung tiga pulau lainnya.

Proyek reklamasi ini selesai dalam 6 tahun dan menelan biaya S$ 60 juta. S$ 120 juta lainnya dihabiskan untuk membawa air, listrik, gas dan infrastruktur telekomunikasi dari Sentosa ke pulau-pulau tersebut. Infrastruktur ini berupa parit bawah laut sepanjang 1,2 kilometer, sedalam 17 meter di bawah permukaan laut, dan dilindungi di bawah 50.000 ton batu. Infrastruktur ini menghubungkan Sentosa Cove ke Pulau Kias. Di sini, terdapat dua jalur pipa gas selebar 12 inci (30 cm), dua saluran air selebar 12 inci (30 cm), empat kabel listrik 22 kV, dan empat kabel serat optik 96 inti untuk telekomunikasi.

Seluruh proyek ini menelan biaya hampir S$ 300 juta dan waktu sekitar 15 tahun.[1][2][3]
