Canavalia rosea adalah spesies tanaman berbunga dari genus Canavalia dalam keluarga kacang polong Fabaceae, ia memiliki distribusi pantropis dan subtropis di pantai bagian atas, tebing, dan bukit pasir.[2][3] Nama umum termasuk kacang pantai, kekara pantai, atau kekara laut.

Kekara laut adalah tanaman merambat herba yang membentuk tikar dedaunan. Batang mencapai panjang lebih dari 6 m (20 ft) dan 25 cm (9,8 in) dengan ketebalan. Setiap daun majemuk terdiri dari tiga selebaran 30–150 cm (12–59 in) dengan diameter, yang akan melipat diri saat terkena sinar matahari yang terik.[4] Ini sangat toleran terhadap garam dan lebih menyukai tanah berpasir .[3]

Bunga dan polong

Bunganya berwarna merah muda keunguan dan 25–51 cm (9,8–20,1 in) panjang, mereka menggantung terbalik dari tangkai panjang dan menghasilkan bau yang manis.[4]

Polong rata lurus atau sedikit melengkung 60–152 cm (24–60 in) lama, kulit mereka menjadi bergerigi saat mereka dewasa. Setiap polong memiliki antara 2-10 biji coklat. Benih bersifat apung sehingga dapat disebarkan oleh arus laut.[3] Tanaman itu tampaknya mengandung L-Betonicine .

Penggunaan

Biji dan polong muda dapat dimakan terutama setelah direbus. Bunganya bisa dijadikan bumbu.[4]
