Holt International Children's Services

Holt International Children's Services (HICS) adalah sebuah agen adopsi yang berbasis di Eugene, Oregon, Amerika Serikat, yang dikenal untuk adopsi internasional.

Sejarah

Pada 1954, Harry (1904–1964) dan Bertha Holt (1904–2000) sibuk membesarkan enam anak mereka di sebuah peternakan dekat Willamette Valley kota kecil Creswell. Selain pertanian, Harry memiliki sebuah perusahaan kayu. Bertha, dilatih sebagai perawat, adalah seorang ibu rumah tangga dan ibu.

Setelah melihat film dokumenter tentang "bayi GI" dari Perang Korea di panti asuhan di Korea, Holts, bertindak atas iman Kristen mereka, memutuskan bahwa mereka akan mengadopsi beberapa anak yatim.[1] Harry mulai persiapan untuk pergi ke Korea, dan Bertha bertanya pada seorang teman bagaimana cara mengadopsi delapan anak dari negara lain. Belajar bahwa akan mungkin hanya jika kedua majelis Kongres meloloskan undang-undang yang memungkinkan, Bertha mengatakan, "Kalau begitu itulah yang akan kita lakukan."[2]

Dua bulan kemudian, "Bill Holt" disahkan, dan pada bulan Oktober 1955, Harry dan delapan anak tiba di Bandar Udara Internasional Portland. Publisitas yang dihasilkan diaduk bunga di antara banyak keluarga di Amerika Serikat. Holts mengatur tentang membantu orang lain untuk mengadopsi, dan apa yang dimulai sebagai menjalankan operasi kecil dari meja dapur Bertha di Creswell (dan saku pinggul Harry di Korea) segera menjadi gerakan besar.

Penghargaan

Pada 2000,[3] Bertha Holt diebir penghargaan Kellogg's Child Development Award dari World of Children Award untuk pekerjaannya dalam Holt International Children's Services.
