Giovanni Antonio Scopoli

Giovanni Antonio Scopoli adalah seorang dokter dan naturalis berdarah Italia dan Austria yang dilahirkan pada tanggal 3 Juni 1723 di Cavalese, Val di Fiemme yang terletak di bagian utara negara Italia.

Ayahnya adalah seorang pengacara. Scopoli mengambil gelar kedokteran di universitas di Innsbruck, Leopold-Franzens-Universität Innsbruck. Di waktu luangnya, Scopoli mengoleksi tumbuh-tumbuhan dan serangga di pegunungan Alpen.

Scopoli menerbitkan Flora Carniolica pada tahun 1760. Dia juga membuat buku Anni Historico-Naturales antara tahun 1769-1772, yang isinya termasuk deskripsi ilmiah dari burung-burung yang baru ditemukan pada waktu itu dari berbagai koleksi. Karya terakhirnya adalah Deliciae Flora et Fauna Insubricae pada tahun 1786-1788. Buku ini berisikan nama ilmiah burung-burung dan mamalia yang dideskripsikan oleh Pierre Sonnerat. Scopoli juga menamakan beberapa jenis serangga.

Scopolamine adalah sejenis obat yang dinamakan setelah Scopoli.

Scopoli meninggal dunia pada tanggal 8 Mei 1788 di Pavia, Italia.
