Theobroma grandiflorum juga dikenal sebagai cupuaçu[2] adalah pohon hutan hujan tropis yang terkait dengan kakao.[3] Umumnya di seluruh lembah Amazon, itu dibudidayakan di hutan-hutan Kolombia, Bolivia dan Peru dan di utara Brasil, dengan produksi terbesar di Pará. Bubur buah cupuaçu dikonsumsi di seluruh Amerika Tengah dan Selatan, adalah buah negara Pará, dan digunakan untuk membuat es krim, snack bar, dan produk lainnya.[4][5]

Tinggi pohon Cupuaçu biasanya berkisar antara 5–15 m (16-49 kaki), meskipun beberapa pohon dapat mencapai 20 m (66 kaki). Mereka memiliki kulit coklat, dan daunnya memiliki panjang 25–35 cm (9,8–13,8 in) dan 6–10 cm (2,4–3,9 in), dengan 9 atau 10 pasang vena. Saat mereka dewasa, daun berubah dari berwarna merah muda menjadi hijau, dan akhirnya mereka mulai berbuah.[6]
