Cairan ekstra-sel adalah cairan yang berada di luar sel dan mencakup 45% dari total cairan tubuh, sisanya 55% merupakan cairan intra-sel.[1]

Jenis

Berbagai jenis cairan ekstra-sel:

Terletak di antara sel, dan mencakup 80% dari keseluruhan cairan ekstra-sel.[1]
Plasma darah dapat ditemukan dalam darah dan mencakup sekitar 20% dari keseluruhan cairan ekstra-sel.[1]
Limfa, cairan sinovial, akueous humor, cairan serebrospinal, badan vitreus, endolimfa, perilimfa, pleural, perikardial, dan cairan peritonial.[1]

Ciri

Cairan ekstra-sel memiliki perbedaan dengan cairan intra-sel yaitu pada cairan ekstra-sel dapat ditemukan banyak ion Na+ (natrium), dan Cl- (klorin).[1] Pada cairan intra-sel banyak ditemukan ion K+.[1] (kalium) Ion natrium memiliki peran dalam kontraksi otot, transmisi impuls, kesetimbangan cairan dan elektrolit, sedangkan ion klorin memiliki peran dalam meregulasi tekanan osmotik dan membentuk HCl dalam lambung.[1]

Gangguan

Gangguan pada cairan ekstra-sel yaitu terjadinya ketidak-setimbangan dapat berupa dehidrasi ataupun overhidrasi.[2] Penyebab ketidak-setimbangan dapat berupa overkonsumsi natrium maupun overeksresi cairan dari tubuh.[2]
