Breviatea, atau yang umum dikenal sebagai amoeba breviat, adalah sebuah kelompok protista amitokondria perenang bebas dengan posisi filogenetik yang masih belum pasti. Mereka merupakan sebuah organisme biflagellata, dan dapat hidup di lingkungan anaerob (bebas oksigen). Sekarang, Breviatea ditempatkan pada klad Obazoa. Mereka kemungkinan tidak memiliki protein vinculin. Metabolisme mereka tergantung pada produksi ATP secara fermentasi sebagai adaptasi hidup di lingkungan anaerob.

Garis keturunan mereka muncul sekitar satu miliar tahun lalu, pada masa saat kadar oksigen di lautan Bumi masih rendah, yang memaksa mereka untuk mengembangkan gaya hidup anaerobik. Bersamaan dengan Apusomonadidae, mereka menjadi kerabat terdekat Opisthokonta, yang merupakan sebuah kelompok yang mencakup hewan dan fungi.[3]
