Bilah bentang adalah tiang pada perahu layar yang digunakan untuk membentangkan laberang agar dapat menopang tiang dengan lebih baik. [1] Bilah bentang memiliki tujuan yang hampir sama dengan bilah silang pada kapal layar tradisional. [2]

Bilah bentang digunakan untuk meningkatkan sudut antara tali-temali dan tiang, memberikan dukungan yang lebih baik, dan untuk menyesuaikan bentuk dan tikungan tiang. Hal ini memungkinkan tiang dan tali-temali menjadi lebih ringan dan tipis, sehingga mengurangi berat totalnya. [3] Bilah bentang mungkin terbuat dari logam, seringkali aluminium ; kayu, sering kali pohon separ; atau material komposit seperti serat karbon. [4]

Desain dan bilah bentang bisa jadi cukup rumit. Bilah bengang bisa tetap (kaku) atau berayun (berputar pada tiang). Sebagian besar kapal jelajah memiliki bilah bentang tetap, namun bilah bengang berayun ditemukan di beberapa perahu balap. Panjang balok perahu menentukan panjang bilah bentang, sehingga beberapa perahu memiliki beberapa set bilah bentang sehingga laberang dapat mencapai sudut yang diinginkan dari tiang. [5] Perahu dengan tiang tinggi, seperti kapal pesiar balap, mungkin memiliki hingga lima set. [6]
