Belik adalah mata air kecil,[1] yang umumnya berupa mata air rembesan (Ingg. seep). Istilah ini berasal dari bahasa Jawa, belik, yang artinya sumber air.[2]

Belik pada umumnya muncul atau berada di tebing-tebing sungai, atau di lekukan lembah kecil; baik di tengah ladang maupun di celah bongkahan batu-batu cadas. Belik sering muncul di bawah pohon besar yang tumbuh di pangkal lembah. Namun sebaliknya, karena peran pentingnya sebagai sumber air, lingkungan di sekitar belik acap kali dilindungi dan dijaga warga setempat agar selalu hijau berpohon-pohon. Dalam pengertian aslinya, belik juga mencakup lubang-lubang atau cekungan dangkal yang dibuat manusia untuk menampung air di tebing atau di dasar sungai kering.

Hidrologi

Belik atau mata air rembesan adalah tempat, biasanya kecil saja, di mana air tanah merembes keluar secara perlahan ke permukaan tanah.[3] Secara hidrologis, belik merupakan bagian penting dari siklus hidrologi, sebagai tempat-tempat di mana air tanah pertama kali keluar untuk kemudian mengalir dan bergabung dengan aliran air permukaan, seperti saliran, sungai, sungai besar, hingga ke laut.[4]

Belik dalam budaya Jawa

Karena nilai pentingnya, beberapa belik ada yang dikeramatkan oleh warga setempat. Misalnya dijadikan objek ritual acara adat penduduk setempat seperti untuk memandikan pengantin, memandikan pusaka, dan lain-lain.[5][6][7]
