Batalyon Infanteri 611/Awang Long atau (Yonif 611/Awang Long) adalah yonif di bawah kendali Kodam VI/Mulawarman. Yonif 611/AWL bermarkas di Loa Janan, Kabupaten Kutai Kartanegara, Kalimantan Timur. Batalyon ini mempunyai 3 Kompi terpisah dari Mayonif yaitu Kompi Senapan A dan Kompi Senapan C yang berkedudukan di sei Keledang, Samarinda Seberang dan Kompi Senapan B yang terletak di Jalan Poros Kukar.[1]

Sejarah

Yonif 601 Brigade C sebagai cikal bakal berdirinya Yonif 611/Awang Long yang berkedudukan di Samarinda dan berjuang untuk menghimpun Kompi-kompi perjuangan pembentukan Model AD- 56 Kompi-kompi bekas KNIL. Tanggal 25 Agustus 1950 diubah menjadi Yonif 601 Brigade F berkedudukan di Kota Balikpapan. Dengan semakin mantapnya organisasi TNI AD maka pada tanggal 26 Juli 1952 direformasikan menjadi Yon ROI I RI-22. Dengan terbentuknya Kodam IX/Mulawarman pada tanggal 1 Juni 1958 Yonif 601 di bawah Komando Kodam IX/Mulawarman. Berdasarkan Skep Kasad: Kep-18/2/2/1967 tanggal 1 Maret 1967 nama satuan berubah menjadi Yonif 611 Kodam IX/Mulawarman. Tanggal 1 Juni 1970 Tunggul Yonif 611/Awang Long disyahkan dengan nama: “AWANG LONG“ sesuai Skep-59/10/1970. Sejak saat itu lengkaplah sudah sejarah terbentuknya Yonif 611/Awang Long.

Batalyon Mekanis

Rencana kedepan, Yonif 611/Awl akan dilengkapi dengan kendaraan tempur Panser ANOA dan KOMODO buatan Pindad dan nantinya Yonif 611/Awang Long akan berubah nama menjadi Yonif Mekanis 611/Awang Long.
