Badai

Badai adalah cuaca yang ekstrem, mulai dari hujan es dan badai salju sampai badai pasir dan debu.[1] Badai disebut juga siklon tropis oleh meteorolog, berasal dari samudra yang hangat.[2] Badai bergerak di atas laut mengikuti arah angin dengan kecepatan sekitar 20 km/jam.[2] Badai bukan angin ribut biasa.[3] Kekuatan anginnya dapat mencabut pohon besar dari akarnya, meruntuhkan jembatan, dan menerbangkan atap bangunan dengan mudah.[3] Tiga hal yang paling berbahaya dari badai adalah sambaran petir, banjir bandang, dan angin kencang.[4] Terdapat berbagai macam badai, seperti badai hujan, badai guntur, dan badai salju.[5] Badai paling merusak adalah badai topan (hurricane), yang dikenal sebagai angin siklon (cyclone) di Samudra Hindia atau topan (typhoon) di Samudera Pasifik.[1]

Penyebab Terjadinya Badai

Penyebab badai adalah tingginya suhu permukaan laut.[6] Perubahan di dalam energi atmosfer mengakibatkan petir dan badai.[7] Badai tropis ini berpusar dan bergerak dengan cepat mengelilingi suatu pusat, yang sumbernya berada di daerah tropis.[6] Pada saat terjadi angin ribut ini, tekanan udara sangat rendah disertai angin kencang dengan kecepatan bisa mencapai 250 km/jam.[6] Hal ini bisa terjadi di Indonesia maupun negara-negara lain.[6] Di dunia, ada tiga tempat pusat badai, yaitu di Samudera Atlantik, Samudra Hindia, dan Samudera Pasifik.[6]
