Syma je rod vodomara iz porodice Alcedinidae koji nastanjuju Novu Gvineju i sjeveroistočnu Australiju.

Rod je uveo francuski kirurg i prirodoslovac René Lesson 1827. godine.[2] Syma je bilo ime morske nimfe u grčkoj mitologiji.[3]

Vrste

Rod sadrži dvije vrste:[4] Syma Lesson, 1827.

  • Planinski vodomar (Syma megarhyncha) Salvadori, 1896 - mužjaci teže 52-60 g, a ženke 49-63 g. Odrasle jedinke su dugačke između 21-24 cm, Nova Gvineja
  • Žutokljuni vodomar (Syma torotoro) Lesson, 1827. - Dug je 20 cm, s rasponom krila od 29 cm, teži 30-50 g, Nova Gvineja i sjeverni poluotok Cape York u Australiji

Odrasle jedinke obje vrste imaju jarko žute kljunove. Planinski vodomar je endemska vrsta planinskih područja Nove Gvineje. Žutokljuni vodomar se javlja u nizinskim područjima Nove Gvineje i na poluotoku Cape York u sjeveroistočnoj Australiji.[5]
