Protorhus, biljni rod iz porodice rujevki (Anacardiaceae). U starijim je obradama obuhvaćao južnoafričke i brojne madagaskarske vrste. Molekularna istraživanja pokazala su da tako shvaćen rod nije prirodna skupina. Madagaskarske vrste najvećim su dijelom izdvojene u rod Abrahamia, a neke se u pojedinim suvremenim sustavima smještaju u Baronia. Hassler zato Protorhus tretira kao monotipski rod s jedinom vrstom Protorhus longifolia, dok POWO još prihvaća i dvije madagaskarske vrste. [1]

Ime

Naziv roda Protorhus potječe od grčkih riječi protos što znači prvi i rhous što znači crven, što se odnosi na crveno lišće. Epitet longifolia (latinski) odnosi se na dugi oblik lišća.[2]
