Marcetella, je mali makaronezijski rod iz porodice ruža (Rosaceae), blizak rodovima Bencomia i Dendriopoterium.
Ime
Ime roda dano je u čast španjolskog botaničara Adeodato Francisco Marceta. [1]
Opis
Rod obuhvaća samo dvije vrste: Marcetella moquiniana — Kanarski otoci i Marcetella maderensis — Madeira.
To su zimzeleni drvenasti grmovi visoki oko 1–4 m, s perastim listovima, sitnim neuglednim cvjetovima, i suhim krilatim plodovima. Vrlo su zanimljivi jer pripadaju tzv. “Bencomia alliance” — skupini makaronezijskih drvenastih rosaceja koje su evoluirale iz mediteranskih predaka tribusa Sanguisorbeae. DNK istraživanja pokazala su da nisu relikti neke stare europske tercijarne šume kako se nekad mislilo, nego potomci mediteranskih sanguisorboidnih biljaka koje su kolonizirale atlantske otoke.[1]
Na otocima su razvili drvenast habitus, veće dimenzije, i kod nekih vrsta dvodomnost (odvojene muške i ženske biljke). Posebno je zanimljivo što Marcetella moquiniana raste po sunčanim vulkanskim liticama i barrancosima Kanarskih otoka, [1]
