Macromeles, biljni rod iz porodice ružovki. Postoje dvije vrste, jedna iz Japana i jedna sa Tajvana.[1]
Ime
Ime roda znači macro- = velik i meles = stara “pomoidna” osnova korištena u Rosaceae.
Opis roda
Drveće. Macromeles je mali istočnoazijski rod iz “jabukastih” Rosaceae (Maleae/Malinae), danas uglavnom s dvije priznate vrste iz Japana i Tajvana. Najpoznatija vrsta je: Macromeles tschonoskii — japansko stablo uske gotovo stupaste krošnje, poznato po spektakularnim jesenskim bojama: žutoj, narančastoj, purpurnoj, i grimiznoj. [2]Taksonomski je ta vrsta je kroz povijest seljena između rodova Pyrus, Malus, Eriolobus, Cormus, Docyniopsis i konačno Macromeles.
Zanimljivo je da Kew danas prihvaća Macromeles kao zaseban rod, dok mnogi autori vrste ponovno vraćaju u Malus jer molekularne analize nisu potpuno razriješile odnose.
