Idiospermum, biljni rod iz porodice kalikantovki. Izvorni areal ovog roda je NE. Australija.[1]
Ime
Idiospermum dolazi od grčkog idios = osobit, poseban, vlastit i sperma = sjeme. Dakle: “neobično sjeme” ili “posebnosjemenik”. To se odnosi na vrlo neobične sjemenke/plodove ove biljke. Engleski naziv “idiot fruit” nastao je nespretnim prijevodom, ali pravo značenje nije “glupo voće”, nego “čudno, osobito sjeme”.[2]
Opis
Idiospermum S.T.Blake je monotipski rod zimzelenih stabala iz porodice Calycanthaceae, reda Laurales. Jedina vrsta, I. australiense, endemična je za tropske kišne šume sjeveroistočnog Queenslanda u Australiji. Raste kao stablo visoko do oko 25 m. Listovi su jednostavni, nasuprotni, eliptični, duguljasti ili usko jajasti, obično 8–20 cm dugi i 3–10 cm široki, s peteljkom dugom 1,2–2,5 cm.[3]
Cvjetovi su veliki za porodicu, pojedinačni ili u manjim cvatovima, s brojnim spiralno raspoređenim cvjetnim dijelovima. Plod je osobito neobičan: velik, težak i s vrlo velikim embrijem. Zbog posebne građe ploda i sjemena Blake ga je 1972. izdvojio u poseban rod Idiospermum, pa čak i u posebnu porodicu Idiospermaceae, ali se danas najčešće uključuje u Calycanthaceae. [3]
