תותח סביבול (באנגלית: Swivel gun) הוא תותח קטן שהוצב על חצובה מזלגית סובבת על ציר, אשר איפשרה לצודד אותו בקשת רחבה. אין לבלבל בינו לבין תותחי ציר (Pivot gun), שהיו כלי נשק גדולים פי כמה ונשענו על ציר סיבוב אופקי. תותח הסביבול נקרא לפנים גם בשם "פטררו" או "פדררו" (Peterero, Paterero, Pedereo), מן Pedrero, "אבן" בספרדית, שהייתה תחמושתם של התותחים הראשונים.

מבנה

תותחי סביבול היו קטני-מידות. אורך הקנה שלהם לא עלה בדרך כלל על מטר אחד וקוטר קדח הקנה (קליבר) היה עד 3.5 ס"מ (¼1 אינץ'). הם יכלו לירות כמה סוגי תחמושת. בדרך כלל השתמשו בהם לירי קלעי אשכול (Grapeshot) וסוגים דומים של קלעים קטני-קוטר, אך גם לירי קלעים כדוריים קטנים (Round shot). רוב תותחי הסביבול נטענו מן הלוע. הם כוונו אל המטרה באמצעות ידית עץ שחוברה אל המכנס (Breech).

תותחי סביבול בעלי טעינת מכנס יוצרו כבר במהלך המאה ה-16, והם נמנים עם כלי הנשק הראשונים מסוג זה. לתותחי הסביבול נטעני המכנס היה מכנס שצורתו כשל קנקן בירה, אותו היו טוענים באבק שרפה ובקלע, והתותחן היה אוחז בידית המכנס ומחבר אותו אל אחורי התותח כשפתחו פונה קדימה. ניתן היה להשיג קצב אש גבוה למדי לזמן קצר אם הוכנו ונטענו מראש כמה מכנסים.[1]

שימושים

תותחי סביבול שימשו בעיקר באוניות מפרשים כנשק נגד אדם. לא היה בכוחם להטביע כלי שיט בשל הקליבר והטווח הקטנים, אך הם יכלו לגרום פגיעות חמורות ביותר לכל מי שנקלע לקו האש שלהם. בשל גודלם הקטן יחסית קל היה לטלטל אותם ממקום אחד למשנהו על סיפון האונייה, דבר שהיה קשה פי כמה עם סוגי התותחים האחרים. על פי רוב הם הוצבו על מעקות הסיפון העליון או בדוכניות הלחימה במרומי התרנים, ושימשו להגנה מפני פושטים על הסיפון ולקטילת מלחי האויב כשהאוניות נצמדו או היו קרובות זו לזו.

בשל ממדיהם הקטנים התאימו תותחי הסביבול למגוון רחב של כלי שיט, ובהם כאלו שהיו קטנים מכדי שיחומשו בתותחים הגדולים יותר, והשימוש בהם התרחב גם ליבשה. הם היו כלי נשק נפוץ במצודות בצפון אמריקה במאה ה-18, ולואיס וקלארק נטלו עימם תותח אחד שכזה במסעם המפורסם אל לב יבשת אמריקה ב-1804.[2] לתותחי סביבול היו שימושים גם בעתות שלום, כמו איתות בירי, ירי מטחי כבוד, ציד לווייתנים (אז הוצבו בחרטום הספינה וירו צלצלים) וציד עופות מים מתוך דוגיות.

תותחי סביבול היו נפוצים ביותר בממלכות ובקיסרויות של אסיה, אליהן הגיעו מאירופה, ובמיוחד בסין ובקוריאה. הסינים ייצרו תותחי סביבול יצוקים כבר ב-1520, והקוריאנים עשו זאת לראשונה בסביבות 1560. במהלך הפלישות היפניות לקוריאה בשנים 1592–1598 השתמשו אוניות הצי הקוריאני בהצלחה בתותחי סביבול ובתותחים גדולים יותר כדי להדוף את צי הפלישה היפני.[3]
