שרלוט ב. קומאן, באנגלית: Charlotte B. Coman (1833 ‏- 11 בנובמבר 1924)[1] הייתה ציירת אמריקאית.

ביוגרפיה

קומאן נולדה בווטרוויל, ניו יורק בשנת 1833. היא נישאה ועברה עם בעלה לאיווה סיטי, אז על הגבול האמריקאי, רק כדי לחזור לווטרוויל לאחר מותו כמה שנים מאוחר יותר. היא החלה לסבול מאובדן שמיעה, והייתה חירשת כמעט לחלוטין עד שמלאו לה 40 .[2]

ראשית הקיץ

קומאן לא החלה לצייר עד שהייתה באמצע שנות ה-40 לחייה. היא למדה בניו יורק אצל ג'יימס רנוויק ברוואורט ובפריז אצל הארי תומפסון ואמיל לואיס ורנייה. עם ורנייה היא למדה ציור באוויר הפתוח ובצבעי מים, ושרטטה בטיולים באזורים כפריים של צרפת והולנד.[3] היא הושפעה מציירי הברביזון הצרפתים, במיוחד ז'אן-בטיסט קאמי קורו ושארל-פרנסואה דאוביני, ויצירותיה הפופולריות הושוו לאלה של קורו. יצירות האמנות שלה מלמדות את השפעתה מהברביזון מהאופן שבו האור הטבעי מוצג בשעות היום ומתנאי מזג האוויר.

לאחר עשר שנות שהייה באירופה, חזרה קומאן לניו יורק והתמקדה בציור נופים אמריקאיים בסגנון הטונליסטי. ציוריה התבססו על סקיצות שנעשו בטיולים לאדירונדקס, ניו ג'רזי וסנט אוגוסטין, פלורידה.[3] היא ציירה נופים שקטים עם קווי אופק גבוהים, לעיתים קרובות נשלטים על ידי צבע מושתק אחד ומשתמשת באימפסטו כבד. הציורים שלה חתומים "C.B. Coman"; כמו נשים רבות בתקופתה, היא השתמשה בראשי התיבות שלה כדי להסתיר את מגדרה.[2]

בית על חוף האגם

קומאן הציגה שני ציורים באקדמיה הלאומית לעיצוב ב-1875, והיא הציגה את עבודותיה לעיתים קרובות בניו יורק ובסלונים של פריז. היא הציגה את עבודותיה בארמון האמנויות היפות בתערוכה העולמית של קולומביה ב-1893 בשיקגו, אילינוי. [4]

בשנת 1905 קיבלה קומאן את הפרס שניתן על ידי אגודת האמנים האמריקאים. היא נבחרה למקורבת של האקדמיה הלאומית לעיצוב בשנת 1910. קומאן הייתה גם חברה באיגוד הלאומי של נשים ציירות ופסלות, מועדון צבעי המים של ניו יורק ומועדון פועלי האמנות.[2]

קומאן המשיכה לשרטט ולצייר עד שהייתה בשנות השמונים לחייה. היא מתה ביונקרס, ניו יורק ב-1924.[1]

עבודתה נמצאת באוספים של מוזיאון מטרופוליטן לאמנות ומוזיאון ארנות לאמנות.
