פרס גראמי לביצוע המטאל הטוב ביותר הוא פרס המוענק במסגרת טקס פרסי הגראמי לאמנים על שירים או אלבומים איכותיים מסוגת הבי מטאל.

בשנת 1989, בטקס הגראמי ה-31, נוצרה הקטגוריה ביצוע הרוק הכבד/מטאל הווקאלי או האינסטרומנטלי הטוב ביותר. להקת הרוק הבריטית ג'ת'רו טאל זכתה בפרס על האלבום Crest of a Knave, ובכך ניצחה את להקת מטאליקה שהייתה פייבוריטית לזכייה על האלבום ...And Justice for All. הבחירה הובילה לביקורת נרחבת - ובפרט על סיווגה של להקת ג'ת'רו טאל כלהקת הארד רוק או מטאל כבד. בתגובה, האקדמיה להקלטה יצרה את הקטגוריות ביצוע ההארד רוק הטוב ביותר וביצוע המטאל הטוב ביותר, ובכך הפרידה את הז'אנרים.

הפרס הוענק לראשונה בשנת 1990 וכריס קורנל ביקר את היכללותה של להקת דוקן בקטגוריה. במהלך 2012–2013, הפרס הופסק זמנית בשל ההצפה של קטגוריות הגראמי;

הפרס מוענק לאמן המבצע. המפיק, המהנדס והפזמונאי יכולים להגיש בקשה לתעודת זוכה.
