פאול לנדאו (לאנדאו) (בגרמנית: Paul Landau;‏ 17 באוגוסט 1880, נַמסלאו, שלזיה, גרמניה – 15 במרץ 1951, תל אביב) היה מבקר אמנות (אמנות פלסטית, תיאטרון וספרות), עיתונאי וסופר יהודי-גרמני-ישראלי.

קורות חיים

פאול לנדאו נולד להדוויג (מצאצאי ר' יחזקאל לנדא) ולפרדיננד, עורך דין ונוטריון, בעיירה נמסלאו (Namslau) שבשלזיה, גרמניה (כיום נמיסלוב (Namysłów) בפולין). סיים את לימודיו התיכוניים בברסלאו. למד בתחילה משפטים, ואחר פנה ללמוד היסטוריה, תולדות הספרות והאמנות במינכן, לייפציג וברסלאו, שם קיבל ב-1904 תואר דוקטור, על עבודה שעסקה ברומנים של הסופר הגרמני בן המאה ה-19 קארל פון הולטיי (אנ').[1] בין מוריו אריך שמידט (אנ') לאמפּרֶכט (אנ').[2] בתום לימודיו נמשך לחוגי הספרות והעיתונות, מ-1905 עבד בסוכנות ידיעות בברלין ומ-1909 היה עורך ומבעלי הסוכנות "Welt und Wissen", שסיפקה לעיתונות הערכת ספרות וסקירות על הישגים בתחומי הרוח והמחקר, ובמסגרת זו כתב מאמרים ופיליטונים רבים בנושאי ספרות, אמנות, תיאטרון והיסטוריה תרבותית, שהתפרסמו ביומונים ובכתבי עת רציניים. בנוסף, שימש כמבקר התיאטרון של כמה עיתונים והרבה לכתוב בעיתוני ברלין על שירה בלשונות שונות, תולדות התיאטרון, ציור ופיסול. הוא היה מהראשונים בגרמניה שהעריכו את יצירותיו של פול סזאן, והיה מיודד עם רנואר ואימפרסיוניסטים חשובים אחרים.[3] מ-1921 כתב למגזין התרבות "פאוסט" (Faust), וב-1923–25 שימש כמו"ל וכעורך שלו. באותה עת פרסם כמה עבודות מחקר, בהן מונוגרפיות על הצייר ואמן התחריטים דניאל חודובייצקי ועל המייסטרזינגר (אנ') הנס זאקס.

ב-7 במרץ 1935, שנתיים לאחר עליית הנאצים לשלטון בגרמניה, עלה לארץ ישראל עם רעייתו כשבאמתחתו ספרייתו העשירה, בת אלפי כרכים, והתיישב בתל אביב. בארץ שימש כמבקר אמנות עד מותו, תחילה ב"על המשמר", ואחר-כך ב"הדור", "בטרם" ו"ידיעות חדשות" (בשפה הגרמנית), שם פרסם בקביעות רשימות על אמנות ותערוכות. לנדאו נישא ב-1909 לסופיה לבית ברסלאואר. לשניים נולדה בת אחת, אווה.

לנדאו נפטר ב-1951, בשנה ה-71 לחייו. נקבר בבית העלמין קריית שאול.[4] אלמנתו סופיה נפטרה ב-1985, ונטמנה לצדו.

אוסף על שמו הופקד בספרייה הלאומית על ידי שתי נכדותיו ב-2013 כאשר הספרייה הפרטית שלו נתרמה על ידי משפחתו מספר שנים לאחר מותו[5].
