כרישים שוחים מחוץ לכלוב מוגן-כרישים שבתוכו אנשים

כלוב מוגן כרישים הוא כלוב מתכת המשמש צוללנים לצפות מקרוב במינים מסוכנים של כרישים, בביטחון יחסי. הצפייה יכולה לכלול מינים שונים של כרישים, כשהנצפים ביותר מתוך כלוב הם עמלצים לבנים וכרישים שוריים, אשר שניהם ידועים כתוקפנים לעיתים. כלובים מוגני כרישים בנויים כך שיעמדו בהתנגשויות ונשיכות כרישים, ויהיו מסוגלים להגן על הצוללנים מפני התקפות. כלובי-צלילה מאפשרים לאנשים לעקוב מקרוב אחר כרישים, ולעיתים לקיים איתם אינטראקציה.

כלוב מוגן כרישים משמש גם לצורכי פנאי. על מנת לאפשר צפייה בכרישים מקרוב, מפעילי האטרקציה משליכים לים פתיונות שונים, כדי למשוך את הטורפים לסביבת הכלוב.

כלוב מונע עצמית

ב-4 בספטמבר 1979, נרשם בארצות הברית פטנט מספר 4166462 עבור כלוב מוגן כרישים בעל הנעה עצמית;[1] שתוכנן כדי לאפשר לצוללנים לאסוף אוזני-ים מבלי להיות חשופים לפגיעה. בפטנט נרשם שבזכות מערכת ההנעה, צוללני אוזן-הים יאמצו את עצמם פחות, ולכן, יוכלו לאסוף את טרפם במשך זמן ארוך יותר. תקציר הפטנט מפרט כלוב בעל הנעה עצמית עם לפחות פתח גישה אחד ושלדה הנושאת מדחף ומנוע אוויר. למסגרת הכלוב מחובר חומר ציפה כך שהכלוב יכול לצוף באופן נייטרלי במים מלוחים. פטנט זה פקע ב-4 בספטמבר 1996.

תאונות כלוב כרישים

בשנת 2005, מרק קארי, תייר בריטי שצלל בכלוב כרישים מול חופי דרום אפריקה, נחשף לסכנה חמורה, כאשר עמלץ לבן באורך 5 מטר חדר דרך הסורגים של הכלוב הכרישים בו שהה במהלך הצלילה.[2][3] הכריש הקיף את הספינה מספר פעמים, והחל לתקוף את צד הכלוב, ואז התחיל לרסק ולנשוך. הקפטן של הספינה ניסה להסיח את הכריש על ידי שהכה אותו בראש עם מוט ברזל, אבל הכריש נגס את אחד המצופים בחלקו העליון של הכלוב, דבר שגרם לכלוב להתחיל לשקוע. קארי הבין שהיות שהוא מצויד רק במסכה, ללא כל התקני נשימה, הברירות העומדות בפניו הן להאכל או לטבוע. הוא שחה במהירות דרך החלק העליון של הכלוב, והוצא למבטחים על ידי קפטן הספינה, שהדף את הכריש על ידי מהלומות בראשו.

ב-2007, כלוב כרישים מסחרי נהרס מול חוף האי גואדלופה לאחר שעמלץ לבן באורך 4.6 מטר גדול הסתבך בו וקרע את הכלוב לשניים במאמץ קדחתני לחלץ את עצמו. תיירים צילמו וידאו של התקרית,[4] שהתפשט במהירות ברחבי האינטרנט.

מחלוקת בעניין פיתוי כרישים

החולקים על תעשיית כלובי-הצלילה, כמו קרייג בווים שניצל מהתקפת-כריש, מאמינים כי פיתוי כרישים מתמיד במטרה למשוך כרישים לכלובי התיירים, עשוי לשנות את התנהגות הכרישים.[5] החולקים על בווים, כמו איכות הסביבה הימית, טוענים כי אין שום קשר בין פיתיון כרישים להתקפות נגד בני אדם. עם זאת, ישנן ראיות כי פיתוי של כרישים לצורכי תיירות משנה את דפוסי התנועה של עמלצים לבנים.[6]
