המרדף לאושר (באנגלית: The Pursuit of Happyness[1]) הוא סרט דרמה שיצא לאקרנים ב-15 בדצמבר 2006 בארצות הברית. הסרט מבוסס על סיפור אמיתי של אדם בשם כריסטופר גרדנר אשר נקלע לבעיות כלכליות קשות שפגעו בו ובמשפחתו. הסרט בוים על ידי הבמאי האיטלקי גבריאל מוצ'ינו, והופק על ידי ויל סמית', שגילם את הדמות הראשית והיה מועמד לפרס אוסקר לשחקן הטוב ביותר על תפקידו בסרט זה. בנו של סמית' במציאות, ג'יידן, גילם בסרט את דמותו של כריסטופר גרדנר, בנו של כריס גרדנר.

עלילת הסרט

הסרט מתרחש בעיר סן פרנסיסקו שבארצות הברית בשנת 1980. כריס גרדנר, איש מכירות, נרשם לתוכנית הכשרת ברוקרים על מנת לשפר את מעמדו החברתי-כלכלי. הוא מתקבל לתוכנית הכשרה שאורכה חצי שנה, ושם הוא נאלץ להתמודד יחד עם 20 מועמדים נוספים על המשרה הנחשקת. רק אחד מ-20 המועמדים יתקבל לעבודה בחברה. בתקופת ההתמחות המתמחים לא מקבלים שכר על עבודתם.

אשתו של כריס שאינה רואה בעין יפה את החלטתו של בעלה, עוזבת אותו ומשאירה את כריס יחד עם בנו הצעיר. החל מהיום שאשתו עזבה את הבית, כריס נתון בלחץ רב, שכן הוא צריך לחלק את ימיו בין שיחות טלפון לעשירי סן פרנסיסקו, אותם הוא אמור לשכנע להעביר את כספם לחברה בה הוא מתמחה, ובין דאגות למקום בו הוא ובנו ישנו בלילות הקרובים. במהלך תקופת ההתמחות, כריס ובנו חיים חיי עוני ללא מקום מגורים.

בסיום הסרט כריס מנצח את שאר המועמדים וזוכה במשרה. באפילוג הסרט מסופר שגרדנר עזב לאחר מכן את החברה והצליח להתעשר.

כריסטופר גרדנר

במציאות, כריסטופר גרדנר קיבל את המשרה, ונהיה מיליונר שהגיע למעמדו בזכות עצמו. סיפור חייו סיפק השראה לסופרים רבים לכתוב את ספריהם, וכן סיפק השראה לשחקן ויל סמית', שהיה אחראי מאוחר יותר לעיבוד הקולנועי של הסיפור. גרדנר כתב ספר שהצליח מאוד בארצות הברית בשם "הזכרונות של גרדנר". הספר פורסם במאי 2006, וסצינות רבות מהסרט "המרדף לאושר" נכתבו על פי זכרונות אלו. גרדנר אף השתתף כניצב בסצנה קצרה בסוף הסרט.

בשנת 2006 גרדנר מכר את החברה שלו ב-184 מיליון דולר.
