דרך ברושים וכוכב (בהולנדית: Cypres bij sterrennacht) היא יצירה באמצעות צבע שמן משנת 1890 על ידי הצייר ההולנדי וינסנט ואן גוך. זוהי יצירתו האחרונה של ואן גוך בסן רמי דה פרובאנס.[1] כיום, היצירה מוצגת במוזיאון קרולר מולר, אוטרלו, הולנד.

אודות היצירה

היצירה נוצרה במאי 1890.[2] ואן גוך כתב לאחיו, תיאו, שעצי ברוש העסיקו אותו הרבה, והוא ראה בהם כאובליסקים מצריים. הוא התכוון לצייר יצירה של הברושים בסצנת לילה עוד בארל ב-1888.[3]

יש הסוברים כי ואן גוך לקח את הרעיון ליצירה מהאלגוריה הנוצרית "מסעות ההלך".[4] זוהי אחת מכמה יצירותיו של ואן גוך שבהן נעשה שימוש בעצי ברוש, בדומה ל-"שדה חיטה עם ברושים" ול-"ליל כוכבים".[5] בנוסף, ואן גוך צייר את עץ הברוש כך שהוא משתרע מחוץ לקנבס, וזהו מוטיב חוזר ביצירותיו. לאחר השלמת היצירה, ביוני 1890, ואן גוך כתב לחברו הצייר, פול גוגן, כי הוא שאב את רעיונותיו מציורו, "Christ in the Garden of Olives".‏[1]

ייתכן כי ואן גוך צייר את השמיים המתוארים ביצירה בהשפעת חפיפת כוכבי הלכת מרקורי ונוגה ב-20 באפריל 1890. החפיפה יצרה שש דרגות של הפרדה, וביחד הם יצרו רקע מואר בהשוואה לכוכב סיריוס.[6]

קט'לין פאוורס אריקסון סבורה כי ואן גוך המחיש את מותו הקרוב ביצירה. היא מבססת את טענה זו על כך שבצד שמאל של היצירה ישנו כוכב חדש שמאיר ומימין מופיע ירח בצורת סהר, כלומר הוא עתיד להיעלם בקרוב. בין הכוכב החדש לבין הירח המתמוגג חוצץ עץ ברוש, וחציצה זו נחשבת כ-"אובליסק של מוות". היא מייחסת את זוג המטיילים על הדרך כסמל להשתוקקותו של ואן גוך לחברות.[2]
