בריכת כדורים היא מתקן שעשועים לילדים ומתקן ריפוי בעיסוק[1], המורכב מכלי קיבול, דמוי בריכה, שבו כדורי פלסטיק קלי משקל, שניתן להיכנס לתוכו ולהתכסות בהם. ניתן למצוא בריכות כדורים, לרוב במשחקיות לילדים צעירים, למשל באלו שברשתות מזון מהיר[2][3]. במשחקיות ניתן להשתמש בבריכת הכדורים הן כמתקן שעשוע בפני עצמו והן כמצע רך לבלימת מהירותם של הגולשים במגלשות[4][5].

עומק הכלי הוא לרוב בין שליש לחצי מטר ואורכו ורוחבו הם לרוב בין חצי מטר לשני מטר. קוטר הכדורים הוא לרוב בין שבעה לשמונה סנטימטר ומספרם הוא בין אלף לאלפים אחדים.

דפנות הכלי לרוב מרופדות ומצופות בציפוי קל ניקוי, ששטחים שונים מתוכו צבועים בצבעים שונים. כל כדור הוא לרוב בעל צבע אחיד, אך בכלי מצויים כדורים משלושה עד שישה צבעים שונים – בדרך כלל צבעים מצבעי הקשת. הכדורים הם לרוב חלולים ועשויים מפלסטיק דק וקל ניקוי.

כאביזר ריפוי בעיסוק, בריכת הכדורים תימצא לרוב במרפאות ריפוי בעיסוק סנסוריות, כגון אלו המיועדות לאנשים בקשת האוטיסטית. בריכת הכדורים חושפת אנשים עם לקות באינטגרציה חושית[6], לגירויים נעימים בעור ועוזרת להם להגיע לרוגע ולאיזון בקלט החושי, שמאפשר פעילות קוגניטיבית יעילה יותר.

בריכת הכדורים המתועדת הראשונה, הוקמה ב-1976 ב"עולם הים של סן דייגו". היא עוצבה בידי אריק מקמילן[7].

בטיחות

כמו כל מתקן אחר, גם במתקן זה ישנן סכנות[8]

  • בשל העובדה, שאנשים וחפצים נעלמים בקלות מן העין בבריכות כדורים:
    • יש לרוקן את הבריכה מדי פעם ולהוציא ממנה חפצים מזוהמים או חדים שהגיעו אליה בטעות. בשל האפשרות הזיהומית, מומלץ לרחוץ את הידיים ביציאה מהבריכה.
    • למעט פעוטות וילדים קטנים, אנשים שנכנסים לבריכת כדורים צריכים להיזהר שלא למעוך במשקלם אדם המתחבא בין הכדורים. נערים או אנשים מבוגרים יכולים לפצוע או לדרוס למוות ילד או בגיר שמתחבא בבריכה.
      • אין להשאיר ילד בלא השגחה בבריכת כדורים.
      • מגלשה המסתיימת בבריכת כדורים מותרת לשימוש לפעוטות בלבד.
      • יש לקבוע גבול למספר האנשים היכולים להיכנס לבריכת הכדורים בו זמנית.
  • בשל העובדה, שילדים נוטים לקרב את פיהם לכדורים:
    • יש להיכנס אל הבריכה בלא נעליים ואחרי רחיצת ידיים.
    • יש לנקות את הכדורים מדי פעם.
    • חומרי הניקוי, כמו גם הכפפות המשמשות את המנקים, חייבים להיות מחומר שאינו מגרה רגישויות או אלרגיות.
