אלברט מאאכן

אלברט מאאכן (לטינית: Albericus Aquensis, בגרמנית: Albert von Aachen) היה כרוניקן והיסטוריון של מסע הצלב הראשון, נולד בשלהי המאה ה-11, ולאחר מכן הפך לקנון והקוסטוס של כנסיית אאכן.

כיבוש ירושלים במהלך מסע הצלב הראשון, 1099. איור בלתי מזוהה של ימי הביניים המאוחרים (המאה ה-14 או ה-15) כנראה מתוך סבסטיאן ממרות, Les Passages d'oultre mer.

דבר לא ידוע עליו פרט לכך שחיבר את "Historia Hierosolymitanae expeditionis" ("תולדות המסע לירושלים") ובשמה הנוסף "Chronicon Hierosolymitanum de bello sacro" ("כרוניקה ירושלמית של מלחמת הקודש"). כרוניקה שנרשמה בלטינית בספר של 12 כרכים בין השנים 1125 עד 1150. העבודה החלה בתקופת ועידת קלרמון שדנה על האיום שמרחף על האימפריה הביזנטית מצד הסלג'וקים ושגרמה למסע הצלב הראשון לצאת לדרך, והסתיימה בפתאומיות בשנת 1121. הספר היה ידוע במהלך ימי הביניים. ויליאם מצור, הארכיבישוף של העיר צור השתמש בו באופן נרחב עבור החיבור בששת הכרכים ההיסטוריים שכתב "Belli sacri". בתקופת העת החדשה, למשך תקופה ארוכה, התקבל החיבור ללא סיג בידי היסטוריונים, כולל בידי אדוארד גיבון, אולם בשנים מאוחרות יותר, החלו היסטוריונים לפקפק במידע שבו, אך בסופו של דבר הוסכם כי הוא מכיל בתוכו פרטים מציאותיים על מסע הצלב הראשון, על אף שמשלב גם כמה סיפורים בדויים.

אלברט מאאכן מעולם לא ביקר בארץ הקודש, אולם נראה כי שוחח רבות עם הצלבנים שחזרו מהמסע ושיחות אלו היוו מקור לחומר יקר ערך. בניגוד לשאר הכרוניקות על מסעי הצלב, אלברט לא הסתמך על עלילות הפרנקים, אלא על הראיונות שלו. המהדורה הראשונה של ספרו פורסמה בהלמשטדט בשנת 1584 ומהדורה טובה יותר יצאה בכרך ד' של הספר Recueil des Historiens des Croisades (פריז, 1841-1887).

אלברט תיאר בכרוניקה שלו את העוולות שביצעו הנוצרים בימי מסע הצלב הראשון וגינה אותן. הוא כותב הכרוניקה הנוצרי האוהד ביותר לסבלם של היהודים בתקופה זו.[1]
