משחקיות

Battlegrounds הוא משחק יריות על בסיס שחקן נגד שחקן, שבו עד 100 שחקנים נלחמים אחד כנגד השני במצב באטל רויאל, מצב משחק בו מספר רב של שחקנים נלחמים זה עם זה במעין מצב של כולם על כולם (אנ') עד שנשאר שורד אחרון. השחקנים יכולים לבחור אם הם רוצים להיכנס לסיבוב לבד, בזוגות, או בקבוצה של עד 4 אנשים. האדם או הקבוצה האחרונה שנשארת היא המנצחת.[10]

כל סיבוב מתחיל בכך שהשחקנים צונחים ממטוס אל עבר אחת מארבע המפות, אשר שטחן הוא 64 קמ"ר, 36 קמ"ר ו-16 קמ"ר בהתאמה.[11] מסלול הטיסה של המטוס משתנה באופן אקראי בכל סיבוב, מה שמכריח את השחקנים לתכנן בזריזות את האסטרטגיה שלהם והיכן הם ינחתו.[10] בעת הנחיתה על הקרקע, השחקנים מתחילים ללא כל ציוד עליהם למעט ביגוד וחגורת ציוד הנותנת שטח אחסון של 70 יחידות (בהשוואה ל-20 יחידות ללא חגורת ציוד). בזמן זה על השחקנים לחפש ציוד (כגון כלי נשק, תחמושת, קסדות, תיקים, אפודי מגן, ציוד רפואי וכו') במבנים ועיירות נטושות הפזורות ברחבי המפה. פריטים אלו מופצים על גבי המפה באופן פרוצדורלי בכל תחילת סיבוב, כאשר באזורים בהם יש סיכון גבוה לרוב יהיה ציוד יותר טוב.[10] משחקנים שנהרגו ניתן ללקט ציוד שנאסף על ידם.[10] שחקנים יכולים לבחור את נקודת המבט שלהם - גוף ראשון או גוף שלישי, כאשר לשניהם יש יתרונות וחסרונות בלחימה ובמצבים אחרים, אך לעיתים הגדרות ייחודיות של שרת המשחק נועלות את השימוש לנקודת מבט אחת על מנת לבטל יתרונות.[12]

בכל מספר דקות, האזור בו ניתן לשחק במפה קטן לעבר אזור אקראי, כאשר כל שחקן הנמצא מחוץ לאזור זה מקבל נזק המתגבר בכל שלב ובסופו של דבר הורג אותם אם הם לא מצליחים להגיע לאזור הבטוח בזמן. הגבול של האזור הבטוח מסומן על ידי קיר כחול אשר קטן עם הזמן.[13] הדבר מביא לכך שהסיכוי לפגוש באויב גדל והצפיפות גדלה, מה שמכריח את השחקנים לפעול באסטרטגיה יותר חכמה, כיוון שהמשחק נהיה יותר ויותר קשה.[10] במהלך הזמן של הסיבוב, אזורים המסומנים באדום באופן אקראי מופצצים למשך כחצי דקה, מה שמכריח את השחקנים הנמצאים באזורים אלו לתפוס מחסה, אחרת יהרגו ויפסידו בסיבוב.[14] בשני המקרים הללו, השחקנים מוזהרים דקות מראש וניתן להם זמן להתכונן.[15] לעיתים, מטוס יחוג סביב המפה ויוריד אספקה באופן אקראי (או על ידי סימון באקדח נורים) המכילה לרוב ציוד שלא ניתן למצוא במפה, הנחשב לציוד הטוב ביותר במשחק. כאשר אספקות אלו מגיעות לקרקע, עשן בצבע אדום בוהק בוקע מהן, מה שמאפשר את איתורן בקלות, אך באותו זמן גורם להגברת הלחימה והתחרות בין השחקנים.[10][16] אורך סיבוב נמשך כ-30 דקות בממוצע.[15]

בכל סוף סיבוב, השחקנים מקבלים סכום מסוים של כסף ווירטואלי, שמחושב על בסיס הביצועים שלהם. ניתן להשתמש בכסף הווירטואלי לרכישת 'תיבות', שבהן בגדים, סקינים לכלי נשק ואביזרים שניתן ללבוש או למכור בחנות הווירטואלית של סטים.[17] מצב משחק מתחלף הנקרא "event mode" (מצב אירוע) נוסף בעדכון במרץ 2018. מצב משחק זה משנה את החוקים של המשחק, כמו הגדלת הקבוצות שניתן לבנות או שינוי אופן התפוצה של הציוד במפה.[18]

ביקורות

אתרים רבים שיבחו את המשחק על הרעיון המקורי וכמות האקשן וההנאה שבו. המשחק מכר למעלה מ-15 מיליון עותקים בחצי השנה הראשונה ליציאתו,[19] והפך למשחק הנמכר ביותר בחנות המשחקים Steam. נכון לשנת 2018, המשחק הוא משחק הווידאו החמישי הנמכר ביותר בכל הזמנים עם 50 מיליון עותקים שנמכרו.[20] אתר הבידור IGN נתן למשחק ציון של 9.5 מתוך 10.[21]

תלונות השחקנים כוללות, בין היתר, מיעוט שרתים שגורם למשחק איטי מדי וכוח עיבוד (מעבד) חזק מדי שנדרש להרצת המשחק.
