LittleBigPlanet (מילולית: כוכב קטן גדול) הוא משחק פלטפורמה שיצא במקור לשווקים בשנת 2008. המשחק פותח על ידי חברת Media Molecule והוצא לאור על ידי חברת Sony Computer Entertainment, וזהו המשחק הראשון בזיכיון של LittleBigPlanet. המשחק יצא במקור לקונסולת המשחקים פלייסטיישן 3 ובהמשך הוסב גם ל-PSP ו-PS VITA.

המשחק זכה להצלחה מסחרית ניכרת לאורך השנים. עד שנת 2010 נמכרו מעל ל-4.5 מיליון עותקים של המשחק ברחבי העולם. הפופולריות העצומה לה זכה המשחק הובילה להיווצרות של זיכיון מצליח הכולל בין היתר את משחקי ההמשך LittleBigPlanet 2 (אנ'), ו-LittleBigPlanet 3 (אנ'), וכמו גם את משחק הספין-אוף LittleBigPlanet Karting (אנ'), שהוא משחק מרוצים המתרחש באותו עולם המשחק, ומשחק הספין-אוףSackboy: A Big Adventure (אנ').

משחקיות

במשחק השחקנים שולטים בדמות המכונה "Sackboy"(אנ') (מילולית: "נער שק"), בובת בד אשר התעוררה לחיים בעולם הבנוי כולו מאובייקטים של מלאכת יד. את הדמות צריכים להוביל במגוון שלבים מלאים במכשולים, פאזלים ואובייקטים אינטראקטיביים, והמשחק משלב מכניקת פלטפורמה מסורתית אשר בה השחקנים צריכים לעיתים רבות לפתור בעיות באופן יצירתי.

ניתן לבצע התאמה אישית למראה של הדמות עם תלבושות, אביזרים והבעות פנים רבות ומגוונות.

שלבי המשחק כולם נוצרו בהשראת תחום מלאכת היד והם כוללים עיצובים אשר מכילים אובייקטים רבים שלכאורה עשויים מחומרים כמו בד, קרטון, עץ ומתכת. האסתטיקה הייחודית הזו היא מאפיין מכונן במשחק ותורמת רבות לקסם שלו.

המשחק מורכב משלושה חלקים עיקריים:[1]

  • שחק - בחלק זה השחקנים מסוגלים לשחק במשחק ב"מצב סיפור" (Story mode) או בשלבים שנוצרו על ידי שחקנים אחרים ואשר אותם הם בחרו לשתף באינטרנט. השלבים השונים בהם ניתן לשחק מתרחשים באזורים עם תמות ייחודיות כמו בג'ונגל, בעיר, במדבר, במקדש, וכו'. לכל אזור יש אתגרים ודמויות ייחודיות.
  • צור - עורך שלבים המאפשר לשחקנים ליצור שלבים מורכבים משלהם.
  • שתף - בחלק זה השחקנים יכולים להעלות את השלבים שלהם לאינטרנט על מנת ששחקנים אחרים יוכלו לשחק בשלבים שהם יצרו. חלק גדול מכל אותם השלבים המותאמים אישית אשר נוצרו לאורך השנים על ידי קהילת השחקנים של המשחק היו בעבר נגישים להורדה, ותרמו רבות להצלחה הניכרת לה זכה המשחק לאורך השנים. השלבים של המשחק שהיו זמינים בעבר לכל חדלו להיות זמינים כאשר השרתים של המשחק נסגרו ב-13 בספטמבר 2021.[2]

עד ארבעה שחקנים מסוגלים לשחק במשחק בו זמנית - הן אונליין והן במצב לא מקוון. את חלק משלבים במצב הסיפור במשחק ניתן להשלים רק במסגרת עבודת צוות.

פיתוח

המשחק נוצר על ידי חברת פיתוח משחקי הווידאו הבריטית Media Molecule בהשראת סרט האנימה "הטירה הנעה".

לאורך השנים חברת Media Molecule המשיכה לספק עדכונים, ותכנים חדשים אשר היו זמינים לשחקנים ברשת.

המוזיקה של המשחק נוצרה על ידי קנת יאנג, דניאל פמברטון ומאט קלארק.
