תפיסה מרחבית

תפיסה מרחבית היא היכולת לזהות, לתפוס ולעבד מידע הנוגע לצורתם ומיקומם של גירויים במרחב.

על פי תיאורית האינטליגנציות מרובות של הווארד גרדנר התפיסה המרחבית היא הבסיס לאינטליגנציה המרחבית.

התפיסה המרחבית כוללת מספר יכולות קוגניטיביות: יכולת חזותית, יכולת התמצאות מרחבית, ויכולת רוטציה מנטלית^[1].

הבחנה בין תפיסה מרחבית לתפיסה חזותית

תפיסה מרחבית אודות הצורה והמיקום של גירויים יכולה להתרחש גם ללא חוש הראיה. בתמונה נראה שחמטאי עיוור, המתרשם ממיקומם של כלי המשחק באמצעות חוש המישוש.

המונח "תפיסה חזותית" מתייחס לתפיסה של גירויים באמצעות מערכת הראייה, המבוססת על קליטה של גלי אור ברשתית.

קיים דמיון רב בין התפיסה המרחבית לתפיסה החזותית ויש להן מאפיינים משותפים רבים. בהתאם לכך, במקרים רבים משתמשים בשני המונחים כמילים נרדפות או שמתייחסים אליהם כמכלול תחת המונח "תפיסה חזותית-מרחבית". עם זאת, התפיסה החזותית אינה זהה לגמרי לתפיסה המרחבית, שכן התפיסה המרחבית אינה מחייבת את השימוש בחוש הראייה ויכולה להתקיים גם בתנאי חושך או במקרים של לקות ראייה. דוגמה לכך היא היכולת של עיוורים להתמצא במרחב^[2].

היכולת לגבש תפיסה מרחבית ללא חוש הראייה נשענת על חושים אחרים בעלי מאפיינים מרחביים כמו שמיעה ומישוש^[3]. התערוכה דיאלוג בחשכה מאפשרת להתנסות בהתמודדות בחיי היומיום ללא חוש הראייה.

חשיבות

התפיסה המרחבית נחוצה כדי להבין ולהעריך את העולם, מפני שהוא גאומטרי ביסודו^[1]. היא מאפשרת לאדם לתפעל חפצים וכלים תוך שימוש ביכולת לדעת מהי הדרך שבה יש להניע את היד כדי לאחוז בספל, לדוגמה. כמו כן, היא מאפשרת לו להתמצא בסביבה הפיזית ולמצוא את דרכו למקומות שונים^[3].

פיתוח של תפיסה מרחבית הוא מטרה מעשית ושימושית^[1].

התפיסה המרחבית היא היבט משמעותי בהוראת המתמטיקה כיוון שהיא אחד הגורמים החשובים ביותר לתפקוד של תלמידים במקצוע זה^[4].

התפיסה החזותית היא אחד המנגנונים הנבחנים במסגרת אבחון דידקטי לצורך איתור לקות למידה.

מנגנונים פיזיולוגיים ועצביים

המידע המרחבי המתקבל מהחושים מעובד על ידי המוח ומשמש את המערכת המוטורית לצורך תכנון של פעולות עתידיות^[3].
