קרב מלכותי (ביפנית: バトル・ロワイアル באנגלית: Battle Royale) הוא סרט מדע בדיוני-אימה יפני משנת 2000[1], בבימויו של קינג'י פוקאסאקו. הסרט מבוסס על ספרו של קושון טאקאמי משנת 1999. הסרט מציג דיסטופיה אפלה שבה קבוצה של תלמידי תיכון נאלצת להילחם אחד בשני עד המוות על אי מבודד, תחת חוק שמנוהל על ידי ממשלת יפן.

קרב מלכותי יצא לאקרנים ביפן ב-16 בדצמבר 2000 עם דירוג הגבלת גיל של 15+ שבו נעשה שימוש רק לעיתים רחוקות ביפן.[2][3][4] הסרט עורר מחלוקת והוא נאסר או הוחרג מהפצה במספר מדינות. [5] טואי סירב למכור את הסרט לכל מפיץ בארצות הברית במשך למעלה מעשור עקב חששות לגבי מחלוקת פוטנציאלית ותביעות משפטיות, עד ש־Anchor Bay Films רכשו בסופו של דבר את הסרט ב-2010.[6] ברחבי העולם היא הסרט גרף 30.6 דולר מול תקציב של 4.5 מיליון דולר. הסרט זכה לשבחי המבקרים, ובמיוחד עם יציאת הקדימונים שלו, משך קהל קהל עולמי גדול. הוא נחשב לעיתים קרובות כאחד הסרטים הטובים ביותר של פוקסאקו ואחד הסרטים הטובים ביותר של שנות ה-2000. ב-2009, הקולנוען קוונטין טרנטינו שיבח את קרב מלכותי ותייג אותו כסרט האהוב עליו בשני העשורים הקודמים.[7][8]

עלילה

בעתיד דיסטופי ביפן, הממשלה מעבירה חוק הנקרא "חוק הקרב המלכותי" שנועד להתמודד עם הדור הצעיר המרדני. במסגרת החוק, נבחרת כיתה שלמה שמובלת לאי מבודד. כל תלמיד מקבל נשק אקראי ומשימה אחת: להילחם אחד בשני עד שרק אחד שורד. אם אף אחד לא יזכה בתוך 72 שעות, כולם ימותו. הסרט עוקב אחרי המאבק הנפשי והפיזי של הדמויות במהלך המשחק האכזרי.
