סאלי אן קורנבלות' (באנגלית: Sally Ann Kornbluth; נולדה ב-1961) היא ביולוגית תאים אמריקאית ממוצא יהודי,[1] המכהנת כנשיאה ה-18 של המכון הטכנולוגי של מסצ'וסטס מאז ינואר 2023.

קורנבלות' שימשה כמנהלת אקדמית של אוניברסיטת דיוק בין השנים 2014 ל-2022 וכסגנית הדיקן למדע בסיסי של בית הספר לרפואה של אוניברסיטת דיוק מ-2006 עד 2014.[2]

ביוגרפיה

קורנבלות' נולדה בפטרסון שבניו ג'רזי, וגדלה בפייר לון.[1] אביה ג'ורג' היה רואה חשבון[1] ואמה, מריסה גלווני (אנ'), הייתה זמרת אופרה.

קורנבלות' קיבלה תואר ראשון BA עם התמחות במדע המדינה מוויליאמס קולג' ב-1982 ותואר ראשון במדעים עם התמחות בגנטיקה מעמנואל קולג' (אנ') של אוניברסיטת קיימברידג' הבריטית ב-1984. היא קיבלה תואר דוקטור לפילוסופיה באונקולוגיה מולקולרית (אנ') מאוניברסיטת רוקפלר ב-1989.[2]

קריירה

קורנבלות' הפכה לחברה בפקולטה באוניברסיטת דיוק ב-1994. היא כיהנה כסגנית דיקן למדעים בבית הספר לרפואה של אוניברסיטת דיוק בין השנים 2006 ל-2014.

ב-2014 היא נבחרה למנהלת אקדמאית של אוניברסיטת דיוק, האישה הראשונה שמשרתת בתפקיד זה.[3]

נשיאת המכון הטכנולוגי של מסצ'וסטס

בשנת 2022 נבחרה קורנבלות' לנשיאה ה-18 של המכון הטכנולוגי של מסצ'וסטס וירשה את ליאו רפאל רייף (אנ'), היא נכנסה לתפקיד בשנת 2023, בטקס הכניסה היא ציינה כי את יעדיה כנשיאה לרבות האצת העבודה על שינויי אקלים וחיזוק הקשרים בין הנדסה ומדעי החיים.

בעקבות טבח שבעה באוקטובר, קורנבלות' ושתי נשיאות אוניברסיטה נוספות (ליז מגיל מאוניברסיטת פנסילבניה וקלודין גיי מאוניברסיטת הרווארד) זומנו לשימוע בקונגרס בדצמבר 2023, לאחר שהועלתה ביקורת ציבורית כנגדן שלא פעלו לכאורה נגד האנטישמיות בקמפוסים[4] ולא גינו את חמאס בצורה מספקת.[5] קורנבלות', ממוצא יהודי[1], נחקרה על ידי אליס סטפניק האם קריאות ל"רצח עם של יהודים" מהוות עבירה של הטרדה ובריונות, וענתה שהן יכולות להיות "אם הן מכוונות ליחידים, ולא רק הצהרות פומביות".[6] בנוסף אמרה קורנבלות' שהיא לא שמעה קריאות לרצח עם.[6] על פי סטפניק קריאות "אינתיפאדה" ו"מהנהר עד לים" עשויות להיחשב כ"קריאה לרצח עם" של העם היהודי.[7] סטפניק אמרה לאחר השימוע כי התשובות שניתנו הן אנטישמיות ובלתי קבילות.[8] לאחר מכן קיבל בית הנבחרים החלטה לקרוא לקורנבלות' ולנשיאות האחרות להתפטר מתפקידן.[9] קורנבלות' היא היחידה מבין השלוש שלא התפטרה.

חיים אישיים

קורנבלות' נשואה לדניאל לו, פרופסור לפרמקולוגיה וביולוגיה של הסרטן בבית הספר לרפואה של אוניברסיטת דיוק.[1] יש להם שני ילדים.[1] קורנבלות' היא ממוצא יהודי.[1]
