מצב הישרדות

מצב הישרדות, או מצב עדר (באנגלית: Survival Mode), הוא מצב משחק במשחק וידאו, בו על השחקן להמשיך לשחק כמה שיותר זמן מבלי למות, בזמן שהמשחק מציב בפניהם אתגרים קשים יותר ויותר.[1] גרסה של המצב מחייבת שהשחקן יחזיק מעמד למשך זמן סופי מסוים, שלאחריו מושג ניצחון והמצב מסתיים.[2] המצב נפוץ במיוחד בקרב משחקי הגנת מגדלים, שם על השחקן לשפר את ההגנות של מיקום מסוים, על מנת להדוף את כוחות האויב זמן רב ככל האפשר.[3] מצב הישרדות הושווה למשחקי הארקייד הקלאסיים, שם השחקנים מתמודדים מול גלי אויבים חזקים יותר ויותר.[4] מצב זה נועד לתת למשחק סוף מוגדר ולעיתים פתאומי, כך ששחקנים אחרים יוכלו לשחק גם במשחק הארקייד. לעיתים מצב זה מופיע במשחקי ארקייד בתוך משחקי וידאו אחרים, כמו במשחק ספיידרמן המופלא 2.

Street Fighter II: The World Warrior על ה-Game Boy התחיל את מצב ההישרדות בשנת 1995, וגם Tekken 2 ו-Street Fighter EX שיצאו לאור ב-1996 וב-1997 בהתאמה גם כללו את המצב. משחקים פופולריים בעלי מצב הישרדות כוללים משחקי זומבים כמו אלה בסדרת Left 4 Dead,[5] משחקים בסדרת Call of Duty בעקבות Call of Duty: World at War,[6][7] משחק הגנת מגדלים Plants vs. Zombies,[8] ו-Gears of War 2.[1] בנוסף, משחקי ארגז חול רבים, כמו מיינקראפט, מנצלים את מצב המשחק הזה בכך ששחקנים שורדים את הלילה בזמן שנלחמים במגוון מפלצות, כגון שלדים וזומבים.[9] משחק ארגז חול נוסף, Rust, משתמש בדמויות שאינן שחקנים ובשחקנים אחרים כאויבים, ומזמין לחימת שחקנים נגד שחקנים על מנת לשרוד בסביבת המשחק.[10]
