ביירון (באנגלית: Byron) הוא סרט טלוויזיה המבוסס על חייו של המשורר האנגלי לורד ביירון. את התסריט כתב ניק דיר, וביים ג'וליאן פרינו. בתפקיד הראשי משחק ג'וני לי מילר, ולצדו מופיעה ונסה רדגרייב בתפקיד ליידי מלבורן. בספטמבר 2003 שודר הסרט לראשונה ב-BBC בשני חלקים בני 75 דקות.

הפקה

בנובמבר 2002 הכריזה ג'יין טרנטר ממחלקת הדרמה ב-BBC על הזמנת הסרט שיופק על פי תסריט של ניק דיר ובבימויו של ג'וליאן פארינו.[1][2] טום לאונרד מהדיילי טלגרף כתב על הפקת הסרט כי "זאת היא הדוגמה האחרונה של החברה להפיק דרמות תקופתיות שהן רלוונטיות לקהל המודרני".[3] המפיקה הייתה רות' באומגרטן והמפיקות בפועל היו לורה מאקי, הילרי סלמון ואנדראה מילר.[4]

השחקן ג'וני לי מילר אמר על הדמות שגילם כי דעתו על ביירון היא ש"הוא יכול היה להיות נחמד וחביב בצורה בלתי רגילה, אבל הוא יכול היה גם להיות די אכזרי כשהחליט על כך. אני בהחלט לא אהבתי את היחס שלו לחלק מהאנשים".[5]

השחקנית קמילה פאוור אמרה על ליידי קרוליין לם ש"היא הייתה כמו אישה ילדה, פגיעה מאוד וגם עם כוח חיים עצום".[5]

קבלה וביקורת

נתוני הרייטינג של הסרט בשידור הבכורה בערוץ BBC Two היו: 2.1 מיליון צופים (12% מכלל הצופים) ראו את החלק הראשון של הסרט, ו-1.8 מיליון צופים (11%) ראו את החלק השני.[6]

ב-2005 אחרי הצגה מקדימה של הסרט בערוץ BBC America נכתב בניו יורק טיימס שהסרט "מצייר דמות סימפתית, לעיתים דיוקן רציני מבלי לטשטש על היהירות והגינונים שלו". על מילר נכתב שהוא "משלב במיומנות תשוקה חסרת מנוחה עם רגעים מרי-נפש של מודעות עצמית".[7] אלכסנדר לרמן כתב באתר Screenonline של מכון הסרטים הבריטי ושיבח את הופעתו של מילר, באומרו שדמותו של ביירון בגילומו היא רגישה ורבת ניואנסים.[8] פיטר קוקריין שכתב על גילום דמותו של ביירון על המסך, תיאר את מילר שהוא "מעולה בתפקיד הראשי; הביירון המוצלח ביותר על המסך".[9]

ג'ני ביוון זכתה בפרס "Royal Television Society" על עיצוב התלבושות לתוכנית דרמה. ג'ון פול קלי היה מועמד לפרס בקטגוריית עיצוב ההפקה לתוכנית דרמה.
