Neotrópico

Neotrópico, Rexión Neotropical e Ecozona Neotropical son termos utilizados en bioxeografía e ecoloxía para identificar a rexión tropical do continente americano, unha das oito ecozonas terrestres que dividen a superficie da Terra.

Vacilacións nos termos

Estes termos aplícanse en diferentes contextos con delimitacións lixeiramente diferentes.^[1]

Algúns autores defíneno como unha rexión bioxeográfica,^[2] e outros como unha ecozona terrestre que inclúe case toda a América do Sur, Centroamérica, as Antillas, unha parte de México (as terras baixas mexicanas) e unha parte dos Estados Unidos (Florida).^[3]

Ten fauna e flora diferentes das da rexión Neártica pola diferente evolución do continente norteamericano.

Algúns autores utilizan o termo como un sinónimo para América do Sur pois abarca practicamente todo o continente desde a costa do mar Caribe até a illa da Terra do Fogo, no sur. Porén, no extremo sur do continente a zona andino-patagónica (que inclúe os chamados bosques Subantárticos) corresponde á ecozona Antártica (Nova Zelandia, Australia e a Antártida propiamente dita), mentres que outros separan a rexión andina, que abarcaría todos os ecosistemas de alta montaña dos Andes e a Patagonia.^[2]
