Island hopping

Island hopping, saltar entre illas, foi a táctica usada polo exército dos Estados Unidos durante a segunda guerra mundial na fronte do Pacífico contra o Imperio Xaponés.

Deseñada polo Xeneral MacArthur e alcumada tamén leap frogging ("Saltos de ra"), consistía en centralos recursos e a acción bélica na conquista dunhas poucas illas importantes e pouco defendidas do océano Pacífico para así poder ir "saltando" ata o arquipélago xaponés. Esta táctica chegaba a sortear posicións xaponesas moi ben defendidas e fortificadas, e ademais, grazas ó emprego de submarinos para facer un bloqueo naval, impedía que o Xapón utilizase os recursos das illas sorteadas polos Estados Unidos.

Isto causou que moitas tropas xaponesas que ocupaban illas pequenas (especialmente de Filipinas e Guam) quedasen completamente illadas das novidades da guerra, e décadas despois aínda pensasen que a guerra continuase, e seguisen defendendo a súa posición, nalgúns casos ata ben entrados os anos 70.
