Abrótega

A abrótega[1], abrótea ou gamota (Asphodelus albus) é unha planta perenne da familia das liliáceas, moi empregada como planta de xardín, nativa do centro sur de Europa. Pode chegar ata o metro de altura, aínda que habitualmente tan só chega a 50 cm. As follas con forma de espada nacen na base da planta; as flores vanse xuntando a medida que se ascende polo talo ata chegar á cima na que están en acios ou amoreadas.

Nas parroquias de Vilelos (O Saviñao) e Castelo (Taboada), os agucios (polo seu nome local) arríncanse durante o último mes do verán para facer fachas ás que se prende lume na derradeira semana de setembro.[2]

Asphodelus albus foi descrita por Philip Miller e publicado en Gard. Dict. ed. 8 3 1768.[3]

En Galicia foi descrita por Baltasar Merino na súa obra Flora descriptiva é ilustrada de Galicia no ano 1909.[4]

Abundante en terreos estériles e montes principalmente da costa e rexión media. Fl. a finais de primavera.

Hábitat

Medra de forma silvestre en pradeiras e chairas solleiras de España, o sur de Francia e a costa mediterránea ata os Balcáns, entre o nivel do mar e os 2.000 metros sobre o nivel do mar. Prefire chans alcalinos, e é marcadamente termófila.

Tamén recibe os nomes de abrótena, apóutiga, asfódelo, breca, gamón, gamota, herba do gando, lumbrieiro, nunú, ouropesa, ouropeso, pé de pita, pella[Cómpre referencia] e petuga.[6][7]
