I rith an Ré Túdarach, cuireadh breis máistreacht ar Éirinn, agus i 1494 cuireadh Dlí Poynings i réim. Thug an dlí - nó na dlíthe seo - cead do Rí Shasana dlíthe nua ó pharlaimint Bhaile Átha Cliath a chosc.

Imeachtaí

Le tamall anuas, bhí na príomh-ghobharnóirí, go háirithe Iarlaí Chill Dara, ag tabhairt faoi thionscnaimh i bParlaimint na hÉireann i gcoinne mhianta na cúirte i Londain. Spreag sé seo Dlí Poynings.[1][2]

Ar 13 Deireadh Fómhair 1494 i mBinn Éadair, tháinig Edward Poynings agus 1,000 saighdiúir i dtír.

Tháinig "Dlí Poynings" i bhfeidhm tamall ina dhiaidh. Ritheadh Acht Poynings (10 Hen.7 c.22) ar 1 Nollaig 1494.[3] Bhí dlíthe na hÉireann curtha faoi réir leasú ag an Ríchomhairle i Londain.

Iarmhairtí

Cuireadh breis máistreacht ar an tír tamall ina dhiaidh. I 1534 rinneadh Tiarnaí Tánaiste de Iarlaí Chill Dara, agus i 1541 ghlac rí Shasana an teideal "Rí na hÉireann" chomh maith.

Níos déanaí, choinnigh feisirí i bParlaimint na hÉireann súil ar thuairimí an rí i Londain nuair a bhí billí á ndréachtú acu: níorbh fhiú dóibh bille a chur trí dhá theach na parlaiminte dá ndiúltódh an rí é a shíniú sa deireadh thiar thall—mar shampla, b’éigean dóibh éirí as an iarracht a deineadh dlí Poynings a aisghairm.[4]

Is beag ná gur cuireadh an Ghaeilge chun báis trí éigeantas agus trí reachtanna stáit, ag dul siar amach go dtí Dlí Poynings.[5]
