Vocabulaire indo-européen

Voici une liste des principales racines indo-européennes, avec leurs correspondants dans toutes les grandes familles de langues indo-européennes. On utilise les conventions suivantes :

Notes

  • Les correspondants sont en général donnés dans la langue la plus ancienne de chaque famille, bien que les formes des langues modernes soient aussi mentionnées pour les familles où les langues les plus anciennes sont mal documentées ou ne diffèrent pas de façon significative des plus récentes ;
  • Les noms sont donnés au nominatif, avec le génitif entre parenthèses quand le thème diffère de celui du nominatif. (pour certaines langues, le sanskrit en particulier, on donne le thème de base en lieu et place du nominatif)
  • Les verbes sont donnés sous la forme que l'on trouve au dictionnaire. La convention varie selon les langues :
    • Pour les langues germaniques et le gallois, on donne l'infinitif ;
    • Pour le latin (100 av. J.-C) et les langues balto-slaves, on donne la première personne du singulier du présent de l'indicatif, ainsi que l'infinitif entre parenthèses ;
    • Pour le grec (400 av. J.-C), le vieil irlandais, l'arménien et l'albanais, on ne donne que la première personne du singulier du présent de l'indicatif ;
    • Pour le sanskrit, l'avestique, le vieux perse et le parthe, on donne la troisième personne du singulier du présent de l'indicatif ;
    • Pour le tokharien, on donne le thème ;
    • Pour les langues anatoliennes, on donne soit la troisième personne du singulier du présent de l'indicatif, soit le thème ;
  • On peut occasionnellement donner un correspondant osque ou ombrien quand il n'en existe pas en latin. De façon similaire, on peut utiliser un correspondant provenant d'une autre langue anatolienne (louvite ; lycien) à la place ou à côté du cognat hittite.
  • Pour le tokharien, les cognats des deux langues tokhariennes A et B sont donnés à chaque fois que c'est possible.
