Créée en 1986[1] dans un club de jeunes situé rue Pierre Oliveau à La Roche-sur-Yon, l'aventure de cette expérience radiophonique ne devait durer qu'un été. Plus de 35 ans après, elle est toujours là.

L'année suivante, la radio diffuse de sept heures à minuit, sept jours sur sept. En 1989 s'opère le déménagement de la radio dans le foyer Guy Bourrieau, toujours dans le quartier de Saint-André-d'Ornay à La Roche-sur-Yon. En , se crée l'association Graffiti.

1994 : rénovation des studios avec l'obtention d'une subvention de la Mairie. Deux ans plus tard, c'est la séparation avec le Foyer des jeunes.

En 1997, Graffiti fête ses 10 ans à la discothèque yonnaise "Le Newton". L'année suivante, arrivé de la pige par obligation du CSA. En 2000 : Arrivé du Dalet - La radio s'informatise. Deux plus tard le nouveau logo laisse apparaitre le terme "Urban-Radio".

L'année 2004 voit la création du site web. En 2006 Graffiti fête ses 20 ans.

2007: Diffusion par TDF.

2010: Rénovation du studio de diffusion. Nouveau logo.

2019: Changement de site de diffusion pour la FM. Arrêt de la diffusion par TDF. Retour à l'auto-diffusion de la FM et début de la diffusion en DAB+[2].

2024 : Changement de site web et de nom de domaine. La radio quitte urban-radio.com pour le www.graffitiradio.fr

Identité de la radio

Généralités

Son but est de promouvoir la scène locale et les musiques indépendantes, dans une programmation musicale éclectique mais toujours alternative et exigeante. La radio offre donc un espace de diffusion aux artistes locaux et à la découverte des musiques indépendantes.

Fonctionnement et ressources

Graffiti fait partie du Syndicat national des radios libres (SNRL), et de la Fédération des radios associatives en Pays de la Loire (FRAP).

Elle est une association dirigée par un conseil d'administration (CA), élu par l'assemblée générale annuelle. Le CA se réunit une fois par mois pour décider des orientations et décisions à moyen terme. Pour mettre en œuvre et faire vivre l'association Graffiti Urban Radio compte une équipe salariale de trois personnes, ainsi qu'une cinquantaine de bénévoles animateurs d'émissions ou de chroniques.

Graffiti entretient de nombreux partenariats avec le tissu associatif local et régional ainsi qu'avec la mairie de La Roche-sur-Yon :
