Les Gando sont une population vivant au nord-est du Bénin, notamment autour de Kalalé dans le Borgou. À l'origine il ne s'agit pas d'un groupe ethnique, mais de descendants d'anciens esclaves et d'« enfants sorciers », rejetés par leur famille, par exemple à la suite d'anomalies physiques. Ils étaient dominés par leurs voisins, Bariba ou Peuls. Minoritaires, ils ont néanmoins réussi à gravir les échelons dans la société et on trouve parmi eux les premiers intellectuels du nord-Bénin. Ils sont désormais assimilés à une ethnie, mais le terme gando reste souvent péjoratif[1].
