Biologie

En botanique une capsule est un organe fructifère creux, à parois sèches, contenant des graines chez les angiospermes, des spores chez les bryophytes et qui s'ouvre à maturité.
En anatomie :
- une capsule articulaire est un type de formation enveloppant une articulation mobile ;
- la capsule interne, la capsule externe et la capsule extrême sont des faisceaux de matière blanche du cerveau ;
- la capsule rénale est une enveloppe entourant le rein ;
- la capsule surrénale est l'ancien nom de la glande surrénale ;
- les capsules frontières désignent une population de cellules gliales du système nerveux périphérique en développement.
En bactériologie, une capsule est une enveloppe qui entoure la paroi de certaines bactéries.
En pharmacie, une capsule est une enveloppe soluble qui sert à conditionner certains médicaments.

En emballage, une capsule est une fermeture métallique ou plastique servant à obturer les bouteilles ou les dosettes de café. Elle est en principe sertie mais peut être vissée (capsule à vis).
- La capsule de champagne coiffe la bouteille.
- La capsule CRD coiffant toutes les bouteilles d'alcool en France.
- La capsule-congé attestant le paiement des droits de commercialisation et distribution des alcools.
Une collection capsule, terme souvent lié à la mode, désigne une ligne d'objets en série limitée.
