Ukrainan (pieni) vaakuna

Ukrainan vaakuna (ukr. Герб України, Herb Ukrajiny) on Ukrainan kansallistunnus lipun, moton ja kansallislaulun ohella. Se koostuu keltaisella rajatusta sinisestä kilvestä, jonka sisällä on keltainen kolmikärki.[1] Vaakunassa on samat värit kuin Ukrainan lipussa.

Ukrainan vaakuna on yli tuhat vuotta vanha. Ensimmäinen havainto Ukrainan vaakunasta on Rurikin dynastian ruhtinas Svjatoslav I:n (k. 972) ajalta.[2]

Suuri vaakuna

Ukrainan nykyinen perustuslaki määrittelee, että vaakunasta on kaksi versiota: iso ja pieni. Suurta ei koskaan otettu käyttöön, joten vuonna 2020 maan hallitus päätti alkaa valmistelut suuren vaakunan suunnittelemiseksi ja käyttöön ottamiseksi.[3]

Elokuussa 2021 asia otti askeleen eteenpäin, kun 257 edustajaa maan parlamentissa tuki uuden ison vaakunan käyttöön ottoa ensimmäisellä lausuntokierroksella. Hyväksyminen edellyttää kuitenkin vähintään 300 edustajan tuen. Ehdotettu vaakuna on kerännyt kritiikkiä opposition lisäksi myös heraldisista piireistä, jotka arvostelivat vaakunassa olevaa kruunua. Kruunun katsotaan perinteisesti symboloivan monarkiaa, mutta Ukraina on tasavalta.[4]
